About the project
We’re building an early learning and childcare centre at Newborough East Primary School. The Victorian Government-owned centre will be run by Early Learning Victoria.
The centre will provide long day care, 3- and 4-Year-Old Kinder programs with space for up to 130 local children in the centre each day. The centre will have outdoor play areas, a carpark, and a consulting room for child and family services, such as maternal and child health and allied health. It will also have a multi-purpose room for community meetings and playgroups.
Families in Latrobe City Council will be able to access more hours of 4-Year-Old Kinder from 2028 increasing from 15 hours to between 16 and 20 hours per week.
Building the centre at the school will help some parents avoid the double drop-off. It makes childcare and early learning accessible and convenient for working parents and carers. It can also make the transition to school easier for some children.
Visit the Early Learning Victoria website for more information about the government-operated centres.
This centre was previously known as Newborough East Primary School Early Learning and Childcare Centre (interim name).
Funding
This project was funded as part of $3.8 billion allocated for early childhood infrastructure since the 2015–16 State Budget. It supports the delivery of the Victorian Government’s Best Start, Best Life reforms.
