The Safe Tree Program is now open to help schools manage high-risk trees on their grounds.
Schools must manage trees on school sites as part of their occupational health and safety responsibilities. Government schools can apply for help to assess, manage or remove high-risk trees.
Schools can specify how much support they need from the VSBA. Either we or the school can manage the tree assessment and arborist report. If schools make a Department led application, we will manage any high-risk tree works the arborist recommends. Schools have to manage low and medium-risk works themselves.
Schools can apply through the Asset Information Management System (AIMS).
We also provide financial help to schools to plant native trees that replace any high-risk trees removed.
Schools should not use this program for trees that are an immediate risk to the health and safety of students, staff, or the community. If there is immediate danger, schools should contact Make-safe.
