About the project
We built the 4-level Julia Gillard Building. It's a VCE-Vocational Major Centre for senior students. It features classrooms and communal spaces that encourage independent study and peer collaboration.
The building also includes art, design and music spaces.
The Tony Birch Library, on the first floor, is a hub for reading and somewhere the school can meet with its wider community.
Funding
In the 2020-21 State Budget, the school received at least $18.935 million for Stages 2B and 3, sharing in the $122.4 million allocated for new schools.

About the project
The former Preston Girls’ Secondary College site re-opened as the new co-educational Preston High School in term 1, 2019, when it welcomed its first Year 7 students. Preston High School has an official website and Facebook page.
We refurbished the former school’s two-storey heritage building. We made use of the high ceilings and generously-sized spaces to create modern classrooms with space for art and science, technology, engineering and mathematics (STEM) learning. On each level, there are breakout spaces for small group and individual projects. At the back of the main building is a central courtyard for students.
Community Engagement
We undertook community engagement in early 2017, asking parents, students, teachers and the wider community what sort of school they would like. More than 2,500 people participated in the engagement.
We summarised their comments in an engagement report, which has helped shape the school’s educational direction and the architect’s master plan. You can contact us for a copy of this engagement.
Funding
In the 2017-18 State Budget, $5.080 million was allocated to the new school. The project received an additional $10.6 million in the 2018-19 State Budget.
