About the project

We are partnering with Hume City Council to expand this centre.

We are adding a third kinder room so that 33 more local kids can attend kinder at a time.

The centre will be able to offer kinder to up to 99 children at a time. It may be able to enrol more kids by spreading sessions throughout the week.

This will help expand Victoria’s 2 years of free kindergarten, as part of our Best Start, Best Life reforms.

Funding

This project received $1.942 million as part of the Building Blocks Partnership between the Victorian Government and Hume City Council. The Victorian Government has committed up to $7.4 million to support 5 projects in the City of Hume. These will create up to 280 kindergarten places in the local government area.

About the project

We built a community centre in Merrifield South, next to Yubup Primary School.

The centre has 2 preschool rooms, allowing it to offer 66 funded kindergarten places for 3 and 4-year-olds. It includes maternal and child health services and consulting suites for specialist services. Multipurpose activity rooms will support community activities, such as playgroups, training and education, and community meetings.

This centre was previously known as Merrifield South Integrated Child, Family and Community Centre.

Funding

In Round 2 of the 2021-22 Building Blocks Capacity Building Grant, $2,000,000 was allocated to this project.
