About the project
We built an early learning and childcare centre at Wedderburn College.
The Victorian Government-owned centre is run by Early Learning Victoria. It provides long day care and Three- and Four-Year-Old Kindergarten programs with space for up to 90 local children each day.
The centre has outdoor play areas, a maternal and child health consulting room, and a carpark. It also has a community room for meetings and playgroup.
Building the centre at the school will help some parents avoid the double drop-off. It makes childcare and early learning accessible and convenient for working parents and carers. It can also make the transition to school easier for some children.
Visit the Early Learning Victoria website for more information about the government-operated centres.
The centre’s name
In consultation with Dja Dja Wurrung Traditional Owners, Early Learning Victoria Dupitjin was chosen as the name. Dupitjin is a Dja Dja Wurrung word and is the original name of the place.
The centre was previously known as Early Learning Victoria Wedderburn (interim name) and Wedderburn College Early Learning and Childcare Centre (interim name).
Funding
This project is jointly funded by the Australian Government and the Victorian Government through the Building Early Education Fund 2026. It is one of 50 early learning and childcare centres that the Victorian Government is building through the Best Start, Best Life reform.
