The Victorian Government has invested $35.2 million in the new Springside West Secondary College (formerly called Taylors Hill West Secondary College), which opened in Term 1, 2018.
Funding provided in the 2016-17 State Budget allowed us to build the first stage of the school for the first students in Years 7 and 10.
Additional funding provided in the 2017-18 State Budget is to build the remaining stages of the school, allowing space and facilities for the full enrolment of 1,100 secondary students.
Stage 2 is being delivered in two portions. The first portion, two learning community sentres, was completed in December 2018. The second will create an adminstative and staff resource centre, a performing arts centre and a sports centre, and is due for completion in April 2019.
The new school has been designed to inspire an inclusive and high-achieving culture in its students, equipping them with the skills they will need to thrive in a 21st century economy.
Facilities
The new school will interact with and complement the Taylors Hill West Community and Sports Reserve planned to be developed south of the school, as you can see in the master plan pictured above under 'Images'.
The buildings and services within the reserve are designed not only for the students' benefit, but also to provide improved educational, social and recreational facilities for the wider local community.
These will play a vital role in enhancing wellbeing and creating a healthy community. Access will be made easier by an internal boulevard between the school and the proposed community infrastructure.
Principal Appointment
John Goodman has been appointed as the new principal of the school. He started work in February, 2017 and is recruiting staff and setting the future direction of the school..
Enrolments
Enrolment has opened for Years 7 and 10 students only. The first cohort of these students will begin in the 2018 school year.
Parents living within the Designated Neighbourhood Area (DNA) will have the option to enrol their child into the new school.
Local Primary – Year 6 schools provided parents with a transition pack of information and a timeline guiding Year 7 enrolments for 2018.
Primary – Year 9 schools also supported the transition of their Year 9 students to Year 10 with comprehensive information regarding the enrolment process.
The Department of Education and Training have developed an enrolment plan for Springside West Secondary College and the Designated Neighbourhood Boundary.
