This will ensure every Victorian family has access to a great government school, our schools can cater for the state's rapidly growing population, and our students are equipped to thrive in the 21st century.
Find out if a school near you has received funding by looking at the latest Budget paper.
2019-20 State Budget will allow us to open a further 11 new schools in 2020,
and 14 new schools in 2021. We’ll open 100 in total by 2026.
Over 100 schools across
Victoria have been funded for an upgrade in the 2019-20 State Budget.
$880 million to rollout kindergarten for every three-year-old, including $473.2 million for new and upgraded infrastructure.
$179.5 million to continue removing asbestos-containing materials from Victorian government schools, and replace older buildings containing asbestos with new, architecturally-designed permanent modular buildings.
MY SCHOOL HAS RECEIVED FUNDING. WHAT HAPPENS NEXT?
The Minister for
Education has sent a letter to each school receiving funding, outlining what
the funding amount includes, details of any training required and key contacts.
What is being built at my school?
For further details, use the search function above to find your school's project page on this website.
Some schools will have received funding to begin planning and designing an upgrade project, others will be funded to begin or complete construction.
We tailor every building project to the needs of the school and school community. This starts with your school creating a five-year asset management plan to guide maintenance and upgrade works.
The foundation of the plan is your school's 'educational vision', looking at the curriculum areas that they want to develop or enhance over the next five years. Schools create this in consultation with staff and students, and we provide training to help them through the process.
If your school has received initial planning funding for their upgrade in the latest Budget, we will appoint an architect to work with them (by July in most cases).
The architect will work with your school to create architectural plans and documentation for the building project. Depending on the size and nature of the project, this can take several months. When complete, and the school has received construction funding, we can appoint a builder and get construction underway.
WHAT ABOUT NEW SCHOOLS?
Building a new school is a bit different, because there is no existing school staff or community to develop an asset management plan.
So we consult the local community, so their needs and aspirations help shape the school's design.
